Abstract
The objective of this paper was to estimate the economic efficiency of groundnuts and sesame production for farmers in traditional rainfed sector in North Kordofan state, Sudan. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from 205 contact farmers sampled through random sampled procedure. Stochastic frontier cost function analytical methodology was used to estimate economic efficiency. The result showed that the mean economic efficiency of groundnuts and sesame were 0.30 and 0.27, respectively, these figures indicates that if the average farmers in the sample were to reach the EE level of its most efficient counterpart, then the average farmer could experience a cost saving of 67% (i.e. 1- (30/91) for groundnuts and 70% for sesame.
