The Impact of ICT Employed for Development and Training of Lecturers in Nigerian Universities

Abstract
In this study, the researcher evaluated the impact of ICT employed for development and training of lecturers in Nigerian universities. The objectives of the study are; to examine if trainees (lecturers’) experience using ICT aids has improve their efficiency in delivery lectures; and to examine if trainees (lecturers) are easily accessible to ICT devices in delivery lectures. Due to the inability to get the exact population of the study, the study used Cochran’s formula at 95% confidence level to obtain a sample size of 384. Cronbach alpha was employed to obtain a reliability instrument that yielded an index coefficient of 0.783, which made the instrument reliable. In line with the design of this study, the data that were collected for this study were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The research questions posed for the study were answered using mean and standard deviation, while the objectives posed in this study were analyzed via one sample independent t-test statistic. The hypotheses were tested at 5% level of significance. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the trainees (lecturers’) experience using ICT aids has significantly improved their efficiency in delivery lectures. Not only that trainees experience using ICT aids has significantly improved their efficiency in delivery lectures, but to a very large extent. The study also concluded that trainees (lecturers’) have easy access to ICT devices in delivery lectures. Hence the study recommends that future research studies should be carried out in similar studies by comparing the impact of ICT on training and development for trainees in both state government owned universities and private owned universities. Having discovered that the trainees have the fundamental role in determining what to teach and how to teach it (and what the students are going to learn) using ICT, it is therefore paramount that they make their beliefs clear and take them into account when designing teaching processes, in order to better observe and comprehend innovative uses of technology for high educational level purposes.
