Person-Environment Fit Among Female Workers in Calabar Metropolis

It has been proposed that people choose occupations and work environments that will suit their personalities. This study therefore, sought to investigate the extent to which the personalities of working women closely fit into their work environment, in Calabar metropolis. The survey design was used and 210 respondents were drawn from the population of all working women in Calabar through accidental sampling technique. One research question was raised and questionnaire/checklist was used to collect the data which was analysed using simple percentages. The result indicated a higher percentage of respondents scoring the lowest end of the scale (182), in virtually all the personality-environment fit indicator statements. It was concluded that individuals who find themselves on jobs outside of their interest and personal characteristics have higher chances of experiencing dissatisfaction. The recommendation is that employment should be based on interest, training and merit and not on locality or any other inconsequential considerations.
