Simple UV Spectrophotometric Method for the Analysis of Gemifloxacin
Gemifloxacin (GFX) is a broad spectrum flouroquinolone antibiotic. It is extensively used for the treatment of respiratory and UTI infections. Aim of our study was to develop a simple, quick, economical but accurate method for the routine analysis of GFX. For that purpose distilled water was used as solvent, stock solution and dilutions were made using distilled water. For comparison studies of two different brands were taken for preparation of solution. Samples were prepared in the range of 100ppm to 6.25 ppm concentration. Their absorbance was taken in a 1cm quartz cell by spectrophotometer in the UV range of 200-400nm and maxima absorbance was measured at 294nm using water as a blank. Results were found by plotting linearity graph and calculating regression equations and it was found 0.999. Hence the proposed method can be employed for the routine analysis of GFX as it is simple, quick and efficient.
