Abstract
DNA repair plays a critical role in protecting the genome of cell from the damage by carcinogens or other damaging agents. The aim of this work was the investigation of polymorphism of DNA repair genes hOGG1 (Ser326Cys), XRCC1 (Arg399Gln), ERCC2 (Lys751Gln), and their association with the risk of upper airway, lung cancer and its subtypes. Genotypes were determined by PCR-RFLP analyses. We observed no association of ERCC2 Lys751Gln and XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphisms with lung cancer development. But there are associations of these markers with development of adenocarcinoma of lung (OR=2.37, p=0.02 and OR=2.09, p=0.04 respectively). We find protective effect of hOGG1 Ser326Cys polymorphism on development of upper airways cancer (OR=0.35, p=0.007). In lung cancer group the trend toward protective effect of hOGG1 Ser326Cys is observed. Marker Arg399Gln XPCC1 gene shows harmful effect of smoking in case of upper airways cancer.
