Abstract
Three Schiff base ligands have been derived by the condensation of o-hydroxyaldehydes i.e. salicylaldehyde, o-hydroxyacetophenone and o-hydroxypropiophenone with propane-1,2-diamine. Metal complexes of Fe3+, Ni2+, Cd2+ have been synthesized using the prepared Schiff bases and characterized on the basis of metal analysis, spectral (IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR), magnetic, conductance analysis. Based on these analytical data geometry of the complexes has been proposed. Antibacterial activity of the prepared complexes was investigated and some of the prepared complexes are supposed to be moderately effective against selected human pathogenic bacteria.
